Cellular models

Our cellular models

Different cell types are cultured in monolayers in our laboratory, including keratinocytes and fibroblasts (L929, SIRC).

Monolayer cultures allow a simple and fast evaluation of your products, for example for the study of ocular tolerance or cytotoxicity of medical devices.

The AlternaSkin human epidermis, specific to our laboratory, is reconstructed from a pool of keratinocytes, our chemically defined environment without animal products.

The keratinocytes are cultured on an inert polycarbonate membrane and in an air/liquid interface, which allows the differentiation of the cells and thus the reconstruction of an epidermis.

The model obtained has the same structure and a physiological composition as close as possible to human skin.

This reconstructed epidermis model set up in our laboratory allows us to perform most of the tests proposed by Cell Alternativ such as MTT viability, inflammation markers or skin permeation.

Because children’s skin has a thinner strateum corneum (the superficial layer of the skin that acts as a “skin barrier”), a reconstructed epidermis model called AlternaSensiSkin was developed to fit all needs.

This one allows the evaluation of products intended for children but also for sensitive skins. Just like the AlternaSkin model, many of our tests can be performed with this epidermis.

Our different 3D epidermis models allow an evaluation as close as possible to the human and its environmental conditions, because they are predictive and we can reproduce the real conditions of application and exposure.

Other cellular models

We perform our tests with eye and skin models that are referenced and marketed

We use STERLAB models : nasal, gingival, oral and vaginal epitheliums
